Red-haired girl told she was too pale to fly!
A 14-year-old Scottish girl with striking red hair had her dream holiday ruined when airline staff told her she was too pale and unwell looking to travel.
Check-in staff for an Etihad flight told the teenager, Grace Wain, that she would have to be referred for medical attention as she was queuing for the holiday of a lifetime with her family to the Maldives.
The Daily Mirror reports that airline staff wanted written agreement from a doctor that she was well enough to fly, despite the fact that paramedics at the airport checked her out medically and gave her the thumbs up to board.
Her father, Paul (45) explained to the air personnel that his daughter was a redhead with a pale complexion who lives in Scotland. Both Grace and her young brother Murray (11), were upset by the ordeal which they encountered at Manchester Airport, according to the Daily Record.
Following the stand off, the airline finally agreed to let the family fly less than two hours before the flight was due to take off for Abu Dhabi – but only after the family had received a letter from their own doctor.
Then to add insult to injury for the Wains, two items of luggage failed to show up when they arrived in the Maldives leaving dad Paul and mum Sheen (44) without a change of clothing until they arrived three days later at the Indian Ocean resort.
The family however believe that the reason for their initial problem with the airline was due to overbooking.
Ethiad said that their staff were just worried about Grace's health.
