Rare Aussie video footage shows false killer whale pod chasing a shark
Rare aerial footage shows a group of whales attack a shark off the Sydney coast.
The drone footage was shot by Bruno Kataoka who told Australian station 7 News that he could not believe his luck at capturing the moment.
"It was a really exciting moment,” he said. “National Geographic guys [would be] waiting months to get such a thing and we just happened to be there at the right moment, at the right time."
The footage shows four false killer whales attack a young juvenile shark, and the footage is being described as offering biologists rare insight into this type of behaviour. False killer whales are a type of whale common in tropical waters that have nothing to do with killer whales, as the name suggests.
False killer whales are a protected species that are often found in tropical waters, particularly in the Pacific Ocean.
