Quiet Man cottage now protected by law

A ruined Irish cottage made famous by the classic film The Quiet Man has been given protected status. The White O’Morn cottage in Connemara, Galway featured in the romantic drama starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara.

The destination is popular among tourists, some of whom have removed parts of the cottage over the years as souvenirs – doing so will now be illegal. The cottage is currently the subject of an ownership battle between an American landowner and a local man who has farmed the land for two decades, and many campaigners believe it should be refurbished so it can become a properly maintained tourist sight.
