See incredible pumpkin art from Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns events across the USA
With Halloween quickly approaching, many budding artists may be planning their designs for this year’s inevitable pumpkin carving. Well, this unique event in the US may just help with inspiration, as it features thousands of hand carved illuminated pumpkins in a variety of styles.
The event is called Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns, and showcases incredible pumpkin art in Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey and Boston throughout October. The clever carvings are arranged along scenic walking paths in each destination and set to a musical score designed to bring out the Halloween spirit in visitors. This year, each weekend will see over 5000 real pumpkins, weighing over 100 pounds each, being carved at each location, as well as a selection of artificial ones used in creative ways. Artists typically spend between ten and 15 hours per pumpkin, creating intricate and unique designs. The events will feature live carving demonstrations from artists sharing tips and tricks for anyone looking to advance their skills.
Some designs featured at the events include Star Wars pumpkins, characters from Disney’s Frozen, stacked pumpkins depicting tigers, cars, dragons and dinosaurs, as well as a series of homages to celebrities that have passed away this year like Gene Wilder and Prince.
Due to the challenges of weather in the different locations, this year the event will take place indoors in Los Angeles, New Jersey and Boston, while it will stay outdoors in Old Westbury Gardens on Long Island. The Long Island location will run for 14 nights throughout October while the new locations will run for one weekend only. Advanced tickets are required for anyone hoping to attend the event.
A full breakdown of dates and information on tickets is available on the Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns website.
