Protesters aim to disrupt whale hunt in the Faroe Islands

The animal rights group Sea Shepherd is currently en route to the Faroe Islands with the aim of disrupting the annual whale hunt. Hunting pilot whales is seen as a cultural tradition by many locals in the archipelago, which is an autonomous Danish province. But opponents say the practice is 'barbaric' and that it contravenes the Bern Convention, of which Denmark is a signatory. The protesters' vessel, Sam Simon, is expected to reach the Faroe Islands on Friday. Read more:
