See inside the restaurant in Mexico that has the most beautiful design in the world
A gorgeous restaurant in Mexico has been recognised as the best in the world for design.
Ixi’im in Chocholá, Mexico was awarded the Prix Versailles 2018 in the restaurant category of the international awards, which are presented by Unesco. The awards are designed to celebrate the architecture and design of businesses, and how commerce can connect with culture and beauty. These awards were given in categories like hotels, shopping centres and more. Since the awards recognise the design, the recipients were architecture firm Central de proyectos SCP and designer Paulina Morán.
As the signature restaurant of the Chablé Resort & Spa in Yucatán, the restaurant is found near by the luxury hotel about 35 kilometres from Mérida. The beautiful restaurant is built in a number of 19th century buildings, including the remains of a rope factory, according to the Yucatan Times. While the building is amazing to look at, there is much more to it than just its appearance. Ixi’im integrates sustainable agriculture and organic farming into creating its Mexican cuisine – even harvesting ingredients from its Ka’anche’s, which the restaurant describes as a Mayan cultivation technique.
If you’re more curious about what you can eat inside the restaurant, the menu offers up some incredible dishes, such as: roasted chicken breast with homemade mole and local pumpkin “pib” style; hairless suckling pig with “recado negro” sauce and pickled Ixchil onions; or lamb from Tahmek with “adobo huasteco”, charred cabbage and chickpea salad. Since the restaurant uses seasonal ingredients, the menus are subject to change. The restaurant is also home to one of the largest tequila collections in the world, with thousands on offer, though tequila is not produced in that region of Mexico.
