President declares disaster zone in Malawi following floods

The president of Malawi has declared a third of his country a disaster zone after heavy flooding has killed 48 people and forced around 23,000 out of their homes. Intense rain began in the region last month and forecasters expect it to continue over the coming days. The region around Blantyre has been hit particularly hard, with some deaths in the city resulting from homes collapsing. Read more:
