Live like a station master and stay in this charming English cottage on a busy train platform
Attention any trainspotters out there that have ever dreamt of living like a station master for a few days. This unique holiday cottage built right on the platform of a working train station in rural England has been made available to rent for the first time ever, offering guests a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
Located near the spa town of Malvern in Worcester, England, the newly restored Platform Three cottage is available to rent through cottages.com and is located less than five minutes’ walk from Malvern Link, which has a number of restaurants, shops, supermarkets and pubs. Built in the 1800s, the station house was once gifted to the station master and is the only surviving building from the demolition of the station in the 1960’s as part of cuts.
Now a five-star holiday letting, the cottage underwent large-scale restorations under the watchful eyes of owners Lee and Chloe Bone, who acquired the property in 2016. An award-winning local craftsman, Lee worked to keep as many of the original features as possible in order to make the cottage authentic and unique. “We fell in love with the property as soon as we laid eyes on it, and put an offer in on a whim following our very first viewing. We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved during the restoration, and have had lovely feedback from the community, many of whom have noticed the property for the first time,” Lee said.
A quarter mile from Malvern town, the cottage easily allows travel to London Paddington, Birmingham New Street and Hereford stations, and guests may even see steam trains passing by their windows from time to time. As well as exceptional views overlooking the platform, the cottage has a quirky décor inspired by the London Underground, including a wall-mounted stationary engine, a floor made from two pence coins and a floating balcony allowing guests to dine outside.
The cottage sleeps four people across two bedrooms, with prices starting from £773 (£27.60 per person per night) for a minimum of seven nights self-catering, with availability from April onwards.
