Pigs as pets in Mexico City is no hogwash

Lonely Planet WriterMexicans love their edible pig products, especially chicharrón (pork rind), but some residents of Mexico City are seeing our porcine friends in a whole new light – as pets.

Mini-pigs, the result of specialist breeding, have became a status symbol in the capital, selling for up to $3000.
Fans say that they’re less needy than dogs, that they’re clean and smell-free (they have no sweat glands), and that they are also hypoallergenic. Most people still see them as walking bacon.
