Talk about some ruff waves! This year’s annual Surf City Surf Dog competition took place at Huntington Beach, California this week, with a host of shaggy surfers showing their skills on surfboards.
Now in its eighth year, the event was part of the Unleashed by Petco Double Dog Dare Surf Dog series and saw over 70 canine competitors taking part in the competition.
Registration for the event included a pawticipation t-shirt and medal for every dog that took part, with $10 of the registration fee going to a selection of charities. An entry fee of $1 per person was charged, with the collected funds also going towards charity.
“We are so proud of how the sport of dog surfing has evolved over the last 11 years. This year, we partnered with local business, the community and most importantly, great charities to create a weekend of family-friendly fun and fund-raising! The event puts a smile on everyone’s face and really gets the crowd connected in the tail-wagging fun,” said organiser Lisa Scolman.
Pawsome prizes were handed out for top dogs based on their length of ride, difficulty of waves and manoeuvres performed. The event also included beach vendors, dog adoption stands and food trucks.
