Poop and fly: Portland Airport to follow JFK and introduce a toilet area for pets
Portland International Airport is drawing up plans to install a bathroom for pets in its terminal building which will be ready to use by August.
The pet toilet area is required under a new government regulation. Basically, any airports that service over 10,000 passengers - and there are nearly 400 in the US - most provide facilities for animals to go to the loo in each terminal.
The Oregonian website reports that PDX already has such a pet facility on the lower roadway on the north end of the terminal. However, the new pet relief area will be inside just off the concourse connector - which is inside the secured area. It means that travellers making a connection, or those already having undergone security screening, won't have to go out again to allow their pet 'spend a penny.' The new government regulation is primarily intended to look after service animals but will also be welcome for pets too.
Portland won't be the first airport to introduce a toilet area for pets. Last week JFK introduced a pet relief area for pets, that looks very inviting....
