Owl bar will be a hoot for London night-lovers
A pop-up Owl Bar is to open in London’s Soho area next month. It follows on a number of quirky openings in the capital, including a Cat Café and a Cereal Bar.
To be known as Annie the Owl, the new premises will give patrons the chance to see the creatues of the night up close while enjoying a drink or two from 19-25 March. The Evening Standard reports that the idea is based on similar owl cafés in Tokyo where customers are allowed to drink coffee and mingle with the birds.
In recognition of owl hours, the London bar will open at eight pm and stay serving until two am. The stars of the London show will be Annie, which along with six other feathered colleagues, who normally reside at the Barn Owl Centre in Gloucestershire. The owls are comfortable around humans after training and will have a professional falconer nearby during the life of the pop-up bar.
The event curator, Sam Sheiky, 32, said there would be four to five owls with a trainer in attendance in two hour slots during opening hours. Money made will be donated to The Barn Owl Centre charity where the birds normally live. Tickets to attend cost £20 – which includes two cocktails –and will be issued by ballot the week before the door opens on the premises.
