Outdoor clothing retailer opens flagship store in Seattle

An outdoor retailer that got its start outfitting prospectors during the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897 has opened a new flagship store in Seattle.

Selling rustic, Americana-inspired outerwear and leather and canvas bags, a style dubbed by some as ‘lumbersexual chic,’ the new 6500-sq-ft Filson store replaces a smaller location in Seattle’s Sodo neighborhood. The company hopes that it will be able to tap into the lifestyle and aesthetic of the Pacific Northwest by focusing on traditional materials and American-made items. Visitors to the Filson store will be able to see workers hand-stitching leather bags, purchase limited-edition items and browse artefacts from the company’s 118-year-long history.
