A year on, state of emergency declared in Ferguson
A state of emergency has once again been declared in Ferguson, Missouri, a year after a police officer fatally shot unarmed black teenager Michael Brown.
After a day of mainly peaceful demonstrations held on the anniversary of the shooting, an exchange of gunfire late on Sunday night between police and some protesters resulted in one man being critically wounded. On Monday around 200 demonstrators took to the streets of the St Louis suburb, blocking roads and throwing water bottles and rocks at police officers. Police have made around 60 arrests at a demonstration at the St Louis courthouse. Read more: reuters.com
