Croatia and Bosnia are working together on a cross-border project to convert a disused railway line into a network of bike trails by the end of the year.

The 200km narrow-gauge railway line was built in 1901 during the Austro-Hungarian rule over the region. It connected Dubrovnik in Croatia with Trebinje and Čapljina in Bosnia. A steam train operated on the line until 1971, when Yugoslav authorities closed it because it wasn’t profitable. The project includes cleaning the paths, installing signals and creating tourist information. Two old train stations have already been transformed into motels.
