O‘ahu locals protest commercial camping outfit

Locals from the small O‘ahu community of Waimanalo are criticising a new business that offers camping packages that set up the equipment and provisions for visitors to Waimanalo Bay Beach.

At a recent neighbourhood board meeting, locals said they were unhappy with a commercial business that charges for campsites in an area that’s usually reserved for residents. ‘We don’t want [Waimanalo] to be like Waikiki, all commercialized where the residents can enjoy their time at the beach’, one neighbourhood board member told the meeting. The local parks department said it is currently looking into whether the business is breaking any rules. Read more: kitv.com
