Nova Scotia officials to announce $28.5 million ferry plan

Government officials in Nova Scotia are expected to announce a $28.5 million plan to support a ferry link between Portland, Maine, and Yarmouth, NS. The announcement raises hopes that the government will provide public funds to support the passenger service, which would serve mostly tourists. Not everyone is smitten with the ferry idea, however – one former politician said the benefits of the ferry aren’t large enough to justify the cost. In contrast, the government released tourism figures last week that show recent rises in visitor spending, which some officials believe justify adding a new ferry. Read more:
