New Zealanders take their coffee seriously and there's a new guide to prove it
We all know how seriously the Kiwis take their coffee culture – they’ve even exported their brand of roaster-cafe around the globe including Sydney, London and New York.
Now Neat Places, a New Zealand outfit that produces small gorgeous city guides on shopping, eating and drinking for a handful of NZ cities, has released a 60-page coffee-geeks guide to New Zealand’s best roasters. The full-colour pocket-sized booklet Neat Places: A Guide to New Zealand’s Coffee Roasters is available via their website and at local Christchurch shops. It showcases 29 speciality coffee roasters in Auckland, New Plymouth, Havelock North, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin and their flagship cafes where roasting, serving and education of coffee takes place. It’s primarily for the domestic market but international travellers who are passionate about their coffee will love it too.
“A big emphasis of the book is on the industry leaders who are constantly innovating to produce the best coffee possible,” Neat Places’ Johnny Gibson explains. “We’ve also made an effort to focus on companies who are involved in the entire process, from the growing and purchasing of beans through to roasting. A few roasters are working alongside growers, providing much needed resources and providing a consistent liveable wage for the growers. This is important for the future sustainability of the coffee industry.”
