This New York restaurant has been named the best in the world
A New York restaurant with three Michelin stars has claimed the top spot at the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards.
Eleven Madison Park was named the top restaurant on the globe for the first time, beating out last year’s winner, Osteria Francescana in Italy. The top 50 were announced this week at a special awards ceremony in Australia.
The New York restaurant managed to also claim the title of the World’s Best Restaurant in North America. The awards have been operating for 15 years, and Eleven Madison Park made its first appearance back in 2010 in the 50th spot, before rising to third place last year.
The restaurant serves “a seasonable tasting menu that focuses on local ingredients”, according to its website. Beginning on 11 April, it will be serving an eleven-course “retrospective menu” that highlights the most significant dishes the restaurant has served over the past 11 years – at a price of $295 per person.
The restaurant is co-owned by Will Guidara and Swiss-born chef Daniel Humm. The restaurant is described in a news release as “housed in an art deco building overlooking New York’s Madison Park, the restaurant’s multi-course seasonal tasting menu celebrates the city’s rich history and culinary traditions”.
Last year’s winner, run by world-renown chef Massimo Bottura, slipped back into second place, but managed to take the title of Best Restaurant in Europe.
The awards are decided upon by voters of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, which is a group of more than 1000 leaders in the restaurant industry.
