Discover which destinations are trending for New Year's Eve holidays
While it may seem early to start making New Year’s plans, it’s best to start early if you want to visit one of the top trending destinations to ring in 2017.
The travel search engine Kayak has released its 2016 Holiday Travel Hacker guide, which breaks down median airfares for travellers flying from the US and Canada, as well as hotel rates and when to book a trip to the destinations that have seen the greatest increase in interest, based on the company’s data.
The guide breaks down the top ten trending destinations for New Year’s Eve that have seen the biggest bump in interest compared to last year. This year’s top city to ring in the New Year is Reykjavik, which is perhaps unsurprising as the Icelandic capital has long been a hot destination for travellers.
While Reykjavik offers a long New Year’s night and the potential to see the Northern Lights, the city to see the second highest increase – Sydney, Australia – will be enjoying summer during the holiday season.
If enjoying some tunes is a top priority for your holiday, it may be time to consider a trip to Music City. Nashville ranked third in the guide, a destination that will keep American travellers close to home. But if you really want to “get away from it all”, consider the fourth place city, which takes travellers back to the Southern Hemisphere to Auckland, New Zealand. Rounding out the top ten is: San Salvador, El Salvador; Dublin, Ireland; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Lima, Peru; Guadalajara, Mexico; and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
