A new, free app called SurgeProtector was released yesterday to help consumers who use Uber and similar services avoid surge pricing. The app, which taps into the Uber API, helps users order a car directly to the nearest non-surging area around them. SurgeProtector developers say Uber has not objected to the app and its development is unlikely to hurt Uber's revenue. Read more:
