New six-day visa-free transit scheme coming to Shanghai
Rolling on from the country’s recent adoption of 72-hour visa-free schemes, China has announced a new plan for a six-day visa-free scheme for Shanghai and the areas surrounding it.
The 144-hour visa-free scheme will apply to non-Chinese citizens flying into or out of Shanghai and neighbouring cities Hangzhou and Nanjing. The new scheme is not only significant because it lengthens the time travellers are allowed to stay, but also because it allows travel between cities, including departure from a city different to arrival. Details of the scheme, including when it will come into force and which nationalities will be able to avail of it, have not yet been released. At present, 72-hour visa-free stays in Shanghai are offered to passport-holders from 45 countries. Read more: shanghaidaily.com
