New Orleans Mardi Gras begins with family-friendly events

One of America’s biggest, most colourful and chaotic festivals kicks off in earnest this weekend as the first parades of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras season get underway. While preliminary events have been happening since early January, for most people the party only really gets started when the Krewe du Vieux parade makes its way through the French Quarter. There will be parades from now until Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), which falls on the 17th of February.
