New London train line will be named after Queen
A new train line reaching across London is to be named the Elizabeth Line after the Queen.
The project, previously known as Crossrail, will connect Reading and Heathrow Airport in the west with Shenfield and Gravesend in the east, and will cut through the heart of the city. The £15 billion route is Europe’s biggest infrastructure project. The first part of the route opens in May 2017, and the Elizabeth Line’s official opening will come in December 2018. The Queen became the first reigning monarch to travel on the Tube in 1969, when the Victoria line was launched.
