New crowdfunding site aims to rescue Italy’s cultural treasures

Italy is endowed with such a wealth of cultural treasures that its authorities find it impossible to raise the funds to preserve and maintain all of them.

But a new crowdfunding platform called LoveItaly, set up by a cross-disciplinary team of art, history and archaeology experts, is aiming to step in and help. The programme highlights small-scale restoration projects and gives history-lovers and Italophiles from across the globe the opportunity to donate anything from €2 upwards to help get them off the ground. The first two restoration projects currently up for funding are a Roman sarcophagus in the Corsini Gallery in Rome and a bedroom in Pompeii's House of the Centaur. Read more:
