The top 50 cities around the world for hosting conventions are revealed
The top 50 global convention cities have been broken into three different area categories for the first time this year.
Up to now the Cvent meetings management company has only listed centres in the US and Europe but the expansion now makes the race for positional places much more competitive. The US still stands alone, but a new Asia Pacific area is documented for the first time. Europe, Africa and the Middle East are now categorized as one area. According to Skift.com, part of the reason for the reorganisation of the contest is to include Dubai, which finished eleventh on the list.
The vice president of product marketing for Cvent Hospitality Cloud, Kevin Fliess said his company had compiled sufficient data over the years to make reports on a regional basis across those three major world demarcation areas. Orlando, Chicago, and Las Vegas dominate the US rankings, with the Florida venue winning the top position for four out of the five years that Cvent has been compiling the city list.
Mr Fliess stressed that Dubai has become a world-class site for meetings. In Europe, London, Barcelona and Amsterdam rule the roost by claiming the top three places with Paris, Madrid and Dublin among the top dozen in the newly drawn area. In the Asia Pacific region Singapore came out on top closely followed by Sydney and Kuala Lumpur.
