New artificial beach park opens in Rio de Janeiro

Lonely Planet WriterA new 'artificial beach' recreational park, Praia de Rocha Miranda, opened Monday at Parque Madureira in Rio de Janeiro's Zona Norte (North Zone).

The 500 sq. km. park features sand, three artificial waterfalls and a shallow pool. With route changes to public transportation making it difficult for residents of the area to access the beaches of the city's Zona Sul (South Zone), the park provides a quality beach-like space for locals. The Parque Madureira project is also home to a football court, fitness center, garden, playground, and the 2016 Olympic rings structure. Read more: riotimesonline.com
