A new app offers Poldark fans the chance to follow in Ross’s footsteps through Cornwall
A free new ‘Experience Poldark’ app promises to guide fans around some of the top sights featured in the hit BBC series. The app, launched by Visit Cornwall, features self-guided tours, Poldark-related activities and places to stay as well as guides to key filming sights and insights from the cast and crew. It also features a ‘proper job’ Cornish language decoder and travel tips.
The series, based on a sequence of novels by Winston Graham, has made a star of actor Aiden Turner, who plays Ross Poldark and was featured using a scythe with his top off in an iconic scene from the first season. Now in its third season, the series follows the Poldark family through a turbulent period of Cornish history around 1800 as Ross returns home from the American War of Independence and takes over his family’s mines. Shipwrecks, skulduggery, duels, love and betrayal ensue.
Yet the dramatic action and handsome cast are arguably upstaged by the grand local scenery, with scenes shot on location across Cornwall. The sweeping beach at Porthcurno, rugged mines around St Agnes and cliff-backed Porthgwarra Cove are some of the sights featured in Poldark.
‘Experience Poldark’ features 15 film locations, and itineraries including three-day tours of North and South Cornwall. Experiences range from horse riding and kayaking to mine trips and a chauffeured tour, while the language decoder features terms such as ‘geddon’ (well done) and ‘teasy’ (bad tempered).
Cornwall, at England’s southwestern tip, is a popular holiday destination thanks to its golden beaches, rugged scenery and outdoor activities. In recent years its food and drink scene has become increasingly celebrated.
‘Expore Poldark’ can be downloaded via the App Store or Google Play.
