Naples police bust gang who created fake €300 note

Police in Italy have arrested 56 members of a gang of money counterfeiters based around Naples after a two-year investigation in which they discovered a money-printing press and bank notes worth around one million euros. They believe the gang, which included specialists in all areas of counterfeiting, from sourcing the correct paper, ink and printers to distribution, were responsible for creating around 90% of counterfeit euros currently in circulation. The group began creating fake euros just days after the currency was introduced in 2002 and at one stage created a €300 note, even though that denomination does not exist. Read more:
