Mozambique decriminalises homosexuality

Mozambique’s new penal code, which comes into force Wednesday, has decriminalised homosexuality, making it one of Africa’s few nations where same-sex relationships are legal.

The previous code had a colonial-era clause outlawing "vices against nature", though there were no prosecutions under that clause. BBC Mozamibque analyst Zenaida Machada noted that the country has seen little violence towards gay and lesbian people historically. Read more: bbc.co.uk
