This new hotel in Times Square features a massive rooftop bar and pet friendly rooms
A new hotel in Times Square is offering quick Wi-Fi, a rooftop bar, co-working spaces, foosball, board games and pet-friendly rooms – and a long list of other features that could have young travellers forgetting about booking that Airbnb in Brooklyn.
Moxy Times Square is the latest location of the Marriott offshoot, which has locations around Europe and the US. The new 612-room hotel is aimed at a “modern traveller” – meaning those who are more interested in the fact that it boasts New York’s largest indoor/outdoor hotel rooftop bar than the size of their room.
While Airbnb rentals have a reputation of attracting young travellers out of the city centre and into lesser-trod neighbourhoods, this new offering is right in the thick of things, just south of Times Square. The hotel is advertising that this puts it guests “a New York minute from everywhere you want to be: the Theater District, Garment District, Bryant Park, Madison Square Garden, 5th Avenue shopping, Javits Center, Penn Station, Hudson Yards, NoMad, and an endless assortment of boutiques, restaurants, and downtown nightlife”.
The rooms are set up with beds, walk-in rain showers and free Wi-Fi – but it’s likely that guests will spend as much time in the communal spaces, as the second-level is dedicated to areas “to eat, work, play and hang out”. The rooms range from 350-square-foot king suites, down to the $99 crashpad – a 120-square-foot twin room designed for those who had a few too many at the cocktail bar. Rooms have flat-screen TVs with access to services like Netflix and Pandora, USB charging stations, and more.
Those looking to enjoy themselves at the Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge will find an “urban amusement park” with a carousel, mini-golf and DJs performing nightly. There’s also a seafood restaurant Legasea, where guests can try twists on classic seafood dishes, and even a spot called Egghead, a whole shop dedicated to the humble breakfast sandwich.
