Mouse causes stampede at Casablanca mosque

A mouse sighting caused widespread panic and a stampede that left 81 people injured at the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.

Hundreds of thousands had attended Morocco’s largest mosque for Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power) on Monday. When a mouse ran across a woman’s foot during prayers, she panicked, and there was a widespread rush for the door. Many were hurt in the crush and had to be taken to hospital, suffering broken bones, fractured legs and dislocated shoulders, among other injuries. Read more:
