Four thousand Moscow taxi drivers went on a strike over the weekend to protest against Uber, Yandex NV and GetTaxi ride-hailing services. According to the cab drivers’ union, these services are pushing prices down which is reducing the drivers’ average daily income by 30%. In Moscow, online ride-hailing services don’t operate cars, but taxi drivers can use them to get customers. The drivers on strike therefore decided not to accept customers through online services.
