More Costa Rica flights cancelled as volcano erupts again

Costa Rica’s international airport in San José has been closed and flights grounded after the Turrialba volcano erupted several times on Thursday. The volcano is located almost 70km from the capital city and falling ash has been reported as far as 100km from the centre of the activity. Turrialba has spewed ash several times in the past few months, indicating the volcano may be entering a more active phase. It is the second time in little over a month that the airport has been closed due to volcanic eruptions. The Juan Santamaría airport was due to reopen at 4pm on Friday, according to reports.
