A Milan hotel's 24-carat gold sheets take travel luxury to the next level, and you can buy them for €200k
We've had gold-topped burgers in Dubai and gold leaf ice-cream in Japan and Malaysia, but a five-star hotel in Milan has gone a step further by providing gold bedding for guests staying at its presidential suite.
We don't even mean merely gold-coloured, lest there be any confusion. At the TownHouse Galleria Hotel, located on the top floors of Milan’s ornate interior mall, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the Seven Stars Ottagono Presidential Suite is furnished with 24-carat gold bed sheets. The luxury sheets are woven with 40% 24-carat gold, fused with a silk and cashmere blend to add softness.
The precious bedding was conceived by TownHouse founder Alessandro Rosso Dubai, designed by jeweller Federico Buccellati, and made by Piana Clerico 1582. According to the hotel, sleeping in such golden luxury is meant to "restore vitality, courage, and willpower, and most of all, amplify positive feelings."
If you book the room, which costs approximately €5500 for a midweek stay, you will also have a panoramic view of the hotel’s stunning interior. The suite also has a large dining area serviced by a private kitchenette, and a wood-panelled studio with a separate bathroom designed for business travellers.
Obviously, it would be hard to go back to mere Egyptian cotton after such an experience, but the 46-room hotel has you covered there. For guests who wish to take some of that positivity, vitality and courage home, the limited-edition bedding sets can also be purchased for €200000. For that, you get a golden bottom sheet, four pillowcases, and one duvet cover.
