Mayor of New York to ban Central Park’s horse-drawn carriages

New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio, is finally set to introduce a bill that will ban the horse-drawn carriages that take tourists on trips around Central Park. The plan to ban the carriages on animal rights grounds was a significant part of the mayor’s electoral campaign, but the measure has been delayed by union protests and high-profile debate. The mayor’s administrative office is expected to introduce legislation next week which will prohibit the use of horse-drawn carriages throughout New York City, with an exception made for parades and film sets.
