Matterhorn lights up for 150th anniversary of the first ascent
Th 14th of July 2015 marked the 150th anniversary of the first ascent of the Matterhorn in Switzerland by British climber Edward Whymper and his team, which saw four of the seven men in the group fall to their death.
Lamps were positioned along their historic route on the Matterhorn in Zermatt and were lit up as part of the anniversary celebrations; a red light was used to mark the spot where the four men tragically fell. Tourists and locals gathered at the foot of the mountain to mark the anniversary and watch the illumination of the Matterhorn. Read more and see photos here: dailymail.co.uk
