The Obama's Martha's Vineyard vacation home is up for sale
A luxury home on Martha's Vineyard where President Obama vacationed with his family is on the market. The architecture award-winning Chilmark House, on the holiday island off the coast of Cape Cod, has a cool price tag of US$17.75 million.
The estate served as the summer White House in 2013, when the administration decamped to the 7000-square-foot property for the holiday.
The presidential paradise retreat boasts six bedrooms, but it is the floor-to-ceiling glass giving panoramic ocean views that gives it the wow factor. Views from the grand entrance are breathtaking - encompassing the Atlantic Ocean and infinity pool.
The house sits on 9.5 acres and comes with abundant space, including a guest house and access to a private beach, along with a private dock on Chilmark pond.
The house was designed with displaying art in mind, and the walls act like a blank canvas for the new owner to showcase their art collection. Something else they might also enjoy is the chef's kitchen with sitting area, fireplace and custom casework.
A heated infinity pool, half-basketball court, fully equipped gym and outdoor terraces provide a breezy and beautiful venue for the new owner. According to the selling agent, Sotheby's, the house is a trophy property that "flows continuously between interior and exterior spaces".
The former President has spent many summers on Martha's Vineyard enjoying rounds of golf and cycling around the island with his family. A photo of the Obamas enjoying their vacation time takes pride of place on a sideboard.
He says homes like this on Martha's Vineyard seldom come on the market. "Rarely do we get this degree of finished project coupled with the quality of the location on Martha's Vineyard. "
