Soon you can escape to Margaritaville in New York City
New York may be the city that never sleeps, but hectic Times Square might be set to become a lot more relaxed when a Margaritaville Resort opens in 2020.
Margaritaville is a chain of resorts inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of the symbol of island escapism, Jimmy Buffett. The new resort, which is scheduled to open in late 2020, will open just blocks away from New York’s frenetic entertainment district and many of the city's top attractions. The 234-room, 29-story resort will bring a little bit of island living to the downtown, with features like a rooftop pool, spa and lounge that will overlook the Manhattan skyline.
Parrotheads (as devoted Jimmy Buffett fans call themselves) will be able to bust out their Hawaiian shirts in the streets of New York, which is quite a new backdrop for a resort chain that has locations in more beach-friendly spots like Florida, the Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico and Tennessee. While New York may not have the sunshine of the other locals, there will be plenty of Buffett-inspired spots in the hotel where guests can feel like they are sunning themselves on the sand, like a Margaritaville Restaurant, LandShark Bar & Grill, 5 o'Clock Somewhere Bar and a Floridays Airstream Café.
The resort may provide a refuge for travellers who like a “no worries” vibe and drinking from a coconut, while still wanting to explore New York. "From the beaches of Florida to the Great Smoky Mountains to the corner of Seventh Avenue and 40th Street, Margaritaville brings fun, relaxation and a much-needed escape from the everyday to any set of coordinates," said John Cohlan, chief executive officer of Margaritaville, in a statement. So get those Hawaiian shirts ready, as the new resort will be wandering distance from Broadway, where the Jimmy Buffett musical Escape to Margaritaville debuted earlier this year.
