Maldives capital runs low on water after fire

A major fire has cut off water supplies for Male, the capital of the Maldives. The fire broke out at the pumping station for the Male Water and Sewerages Company, shutting down the main supply of drinking water for the island. The company has promised to provide a limited supply of water for a few hours on Friday evening and Saturday morning, but queues are already building at shops selling bottled water. Read more:
