Londoners going on holiday pay more for parking than for flights

Londoners may be able to snap up cheap flights abroad for their holidays but are finding the city one of the dearest places in the world to park their cars while they are away.

In fact, a new study by Just Park, the parking app, has found that parking in many cases is much dearer than flying. The prices can go up to £315 per week as in London’s City Airport while Heathrow costs £167 for a week. The Mail Online reported that Britain had the dubious distinction of providing seven of the world’s ten most expensive airport car park charges.

JustPark founder, Anthony Eskinazi, said that while it was well established that UK airport parking was seriously over priced, the latest revelations were still quite remarkable. He stressed that there had to be a problem when travellers were being asked to pay more “for their airport parking than their flights.”.

After London City and Heathrow which filled the top two positions, in third place came Sydney’s Kingsford-Smith airport with another London airport, Stansted, next at £133. Filling out the top ten positions were Dubai International, Singapore Changi, Edinburgh, Luton, Gatwick and Manchester. In doing the study, the website compared the prices for standard long-term car parks.
