London has eight out of 10 of Britain’s most popular tourist attractions
The British Museum in London is the most popular tourist attraction in the UK with 6.7 million annual visitors, which is over half a million more people than the National Gallery in second place.
Data collected by Visit England showing the top 50 places for tourists to visit in the country had four London sites at the top of the popularity list with the Natural History Museum (5.3million) in third place and the Tate Modern (4.9 million) in fourth spot. Nine of the top ten sites were in London, the Mail Online reported.
Overall though, there is a wide geographic spread on attractions making the list with Epping Forest attracting 4.4 million visitors, putting it in fifth place overall with Brighton Pier closely behind with four million visitors.
Among other sites showing up well were the Eden Project in Cornwall, Stonehenge and Flamingo Land in Yorkshire.
