Lifeguards rescue 200 swimmers at Ocean City

Lifeguards patrolling Ocean City rescued nearly 200 swimmers on Sunday and Monday as heavy surf and rip currents created dangerous swimming conditions at the Maryland beach resort.

While many rescues were preventative, several people were hospitalised and an ambulance was called for three swimmers who were pushed against rocks by the strong currents. The conditions were caused by rough surf and rip currents that pulled swimmers away from the shore. Ocean City sees one or two deaths a year from drowning. Read more:
