Largest super typhoon of 2015 headed for East Asia

Super Typhoon Soudelor, which escalated into the largest cyclone the planet has seen this year, is expected to affect Taiwan, Japan and China this week.

Soudelor developed into a ‘super typhoon’ with 263kph wind gusts, equivalent to a category-five hurricane. The typhoon, which is currently east of Taiwan over the Pacific Ocean, is will likely make landfall in Taiwan early on Saturday, with the potential to affect Taipei. The storm will then hit the southeast coast of China along Fujian province before weakening as it heads inland on Sunday. Authorities in Taiwan have already begun preparing flood-prevention measures.
