LA shirt designer profits from El Chapo’s arrest

As well as being a much-needed morale boost for the police in Mexico, the recapture of drug lord Joaquín Guzmán, better known as El Chapo (Spanish for “shortie”), has benefited a Los Angeles designer too.

Shawn Esteghbal, who runs a men’s clothes shop in Downtown LA, saw the photos of El Chapo meeting Sean Penn and recognised the shirt Guzmán was wearing as one of his own designs. Since then the shirts, which sell for $128, have been flying out the store and Esteghbal couldn’t be more delighted.
