Kim Jong-un tours slick new Pyongyang airport terminal

North Korea’s state news agency has released photos of the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un, touring the new terminal at Pyongyang airport, which is set for a 1 July opening. Photos showed Kim and his wife Ri Sol Ju, touring the terminal and inspecting its facilities, which appeared to include an espresso cafe, duty free shops, newsstands and shiny new departure gates. It is unclear how much traffic the new terminal will have, though passenger numbers at Pyongyang’s airport remain low, serving mostly North Korean dignitaries, visiting Chinese tourists and a handful of western tourists each year. Kim has also called for construction of a high-speed rail connection and motorway to the airport, which is situated about 25km northwest of the city. Read more:
