Karachi devotees hope saint will protect them from cyclone

As Cyclone Nilofar approaches Pakistan, residents of Karachi are being evacuated from coastal areas, except at the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi. Devotees believe that the Sufi saint has the power to repel cyclones and the shrine attendants have insisted on riding out the storm, relying on the spiritual protection of the saint. Known as ‘Baba’, Abdullah Shah Ghazi is credited with bringing Islam to Karachi in the eighth century, and is revered as the patron saint of Pakistan’s largest city. Read more: dawn.com
