Japanese volcano eruption prompts evacuations

An eruption has occurred at Japan’s largest volcano, Mt Aso, prompting the Japan Meteorological Agency to raise its alert level for the mountain, warning people not to approach.

About 30 tourists, who were near the crater at the time of the eruption, were evacuated, and some flights were cancelled. Mt Aso, near Kumamoto on Japan’s main southern island of Kyūshū, is a popular hiking spot. Read more: japantimes.co.jp
