Japanese company unveils grand designs for underwater city

Shimizu Corporation in Japan has been developing plans to build a large underwater city that would include residences, hotels and businesses. Shimizu, an engineering company, released designs of the complex showing a globe 500m in diameter and a 15km-long spiral structure. The corporation, which is working in conjunction with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology and Tokyo University, says it would take five years to build the complex at a cost of ¥3 trillion.
