These bars have been voted the best Irish pubs around the world
Travelling the world usually means trying out new cuisines, bars and restaurants, but there are certain things you can count on finding on every corner of the globe – like a traditional Irish pub.
While those pubs will inevitably vary in quality and authenticity, if you need a push in the right direction, consider the winners of the Irish Pubs Global Awards. This year, the Irish Pub of the Year is Scholars Lounge in Rome, located near the city’s famous Piazza Venezia. The pub is one of the biggest Irish bars in the city and features weekly music gigs that include Irish bands.
If you’re looking for an Irish pub experience in its birthplace, the top spot in Ireland is Slattery’s Pub in Dublin. The pub, located in the Beggar’s Bush neighbourhood, is a popular venue for sports fans – partially due to its proximity to Aviva Stadium where international and national rugby and football matches are held. If you’re looking for the best experiences outside of Ireland – try Waxy O’Connors in London, which was named the best in the UK, while the Scholars Lounge in Rome was named the best in Europe. In North America, the Irish Times in Victoria took the award home, while in the rest of the world, McGettigans JLT in Dubai is the one to beat.
For whiskey lovers, Tir na nÓg in Aarhus, Denmark took home the global award for Best Irish Whiskey Experience. Cocktail lovers will be unsurprised that Dead Rabbit in NYC – which was previously named the best bar in the world – won Best Cocktail Experience. Despite Ireland’s loyalty to the perfect pint of Guinness, craft beer aficionados need look no further than Dublin, where the Porterhouse in Temple Bar won the Best Craft Beer Experience.
